Commercial HVAC Problems?
Having commercial HVAC problems is never convenient. You’re likely to face a tense situation from several directions: employees, tenants, customers – nobody’s going to be happy. You’re expected to provide a comfortable environment for them while they are on your turf, no matter if they are intended to be there for a day or an hour. If you want to keep everyone happy and make sure they’ll come back again, you need to get your system fixed fast.
Don’t try to fix your commercial HVAC system yourself
If your commercial HVAC unit hasn’t been serviced in a while, getting it fixed might be a bigger problem than you anticipate. You might even be tempted to have a go at fixing it yourself, but keep in mind that a commercial HVAC system is vastly different from a smaller home unit. In fact, it’s a job that even residential HVAC technicians would prefer to avoid.
That said, there is one thing you can check before you make that service call: your thermostat.
Thermostat troubleshooting checklist
Here’s a thermostat checklist to go through before you make your commercial HVAC service
call:
- Is the thermostat in the proper mode? (heating or cooling)
- Is there a program that ought to be running that isn’t?
- Is it set to the correct date and time? (it may be programmed on a timer)
- Are you able to adjust the settings and controls?
If, after running through this checklist, you are still having issues, see if you can reset the thermostat back to its factory settings. If resetting the settings doesn’t work, it may still be a thermostat issue, possibly due to faulty wiring or a bad sensor. In that case, you’ll need to call a technician anyhow, but at least you’ve narrowed down the possibilities.
