  • Is the thermostat in the proper mode? (heating or cooling)
  • Is there a program that ought to be running that isn’t?
  • Is it set to the correct date and time? (it may be programmed on a timer)
  • Are you able to adjust the settings and controls?

If, after running through this checklist, you are still having issues, see if you can reset the thermostat back to its factory settings. If resetting the settings doesn’t work, it may still be a thermostat issue, possibly due to faulty wiring or a bad sensor. In that case, you’ll need to call a technician anyhow, but at least you’ve narrowed down the possibilities.
